All the books I read in March and what I thought of them

Help someone please get me off this bus I am so squished and my backpack doesn't fit in the footwell. I am going to have an aneurysm. Anyway, I read 10 books in March, largely over spring break.

It is now a month later at the time of writing and I did get off the bus, and the man sitting next to me squished me significantly less after I started writing the blog post, so I think he must have been looking over my shoulder. He is a twitter user, which is a red flag in men, but at least he is not inconsiderate. Although he should have been more careful of his elbows to begin with.

Your Fathers, Where Are They? And the Prophets, Do They Live Forever? by Dave Eggers

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I read this book on the T when I was going to visit my friend Chaney. I could not put it down. The main character is SO funny. This man kidnaps people and brings them to a military base and then fails to understand the gravity of his actions. I like the way the central themes were presented, even though they didn't speak much to me personally.

What Are You Going Through? by Sigrid Nunez

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨️

The problem with this book is it is trying to be empathetic to other people's problems, but a lot of the time it just felt mean spirited, although there were some nice moments of friendship between the main characters.

Fate by Jorge Consiglio

rating: ⭐⭐

This is maybe one of the most forgettable books I have ever read. I didn't care at all. What was the point? One of the protagonists played oboe (I play oboe!!), and nothing about it made me think the author has never seen an oboe in his life, but it wasn't a very big part of the story so that was somewhat disappointing.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This book did not sound interesting to me but the cover was so beautiful and I kept seeing it that eventually I gave up not reading it. This book was really good!! There are some decisions the author made that I would not have made, but the central friendship was still very interesting and complex, and I cared very much to know how things were going to turn out. This book is the best possible version of itself.

Circe by Madeline Miller (rereread)

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love Madeline Miller with all of my heart, and when I find out what joker gave her long covid, it's going to be all over for that idiot.

The Slippery Slope by Lemony Snicket (rerereread)

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is probably the worst book in the series that isn't extremely formulaic, except maybe The Hostile Hospital, although I think that book also feels very formulaic. I love Quigley Quagmire, though!! But I hate Anna Karenina, and I hate being reminded of Anna Karenina, and this book referenced Anna Karenina.

The Grim Grotto by Lemony Snicket (rerereread)

rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I remember reading this book in my high school physics class instead of paying attention and I was right next to my teacher's desk and I kept audibly laughing at Count Olaf and Esme's villainous laughs (tee hee tonsillectomy, etc) and I was like, oh shoot he's going to realize I'm reading The Grim Grotto instead of paying attention, but somehow he never did, or else he didn't care.

Exile's Return: The Making of a Palestinian American by Fawaz Turki

rating: ⭐✨

The author of this book, a Palestinian, hates Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims so much for no reason. He makes such broad generalizations about entire cultures and it is just so tiring and annoying to read. My friend you did not comprehensively psychoanalyze a random sample of modern Arab Muslims and ask them whether they were submissive and dependent on authority. Nothing about this memoir is even a little compelling and the author should learn what a public opinion poll is.

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted by Jayne Allen

rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The plot fell off somewhat at the end, and I don't approve of how the various loose ends got tied up, but the first 60-70% of this book was so exciting. It was like a soap opera. A new plot point every other chapter. I support the main character so much. She could kill someone and I would still want only good things for her.

📰📰📰

I speedran finishing this blog post and I won't even be late to my theology class. I have extremely extensive opinions and feelings about that class, but if I expounded on them the speedrun would no longer be successful.
